Privacy policy
BrowserGotchi is built local-first. Here is exactly what data exists, where, and why.
Local first
All pet data — name, stats, bond level, mood, species, accessories, backgrounds and game progress — is stored in your browser (local / extension storage). It never leaves your device unless you create an account and switch on cloud sync.
Optional account & cloud sync
If you create an account we store your e-mail address, a bcrypt hash of your password and — if you sync — your pet's saved state and friend codes, so you can use them on several devices. This data is never sold or shared with third parties.
Sessions
After you log in, the extension and website keep a random session token instead of your password. Tokens expire after 30 days, are stored on our server only as a hash, and are revoked when you log out, reset your password or delete your account.
We send e-mail only for things you triggered: confirming your address, password resets and purchase receipts with your licence key. Delivery uses Scaleway Transactional Email (EU).
Payments
Payments are processed by Mollie B.V. Your e-mail is shared with Mollie only to complete the transaction. We store your e-mail, which products you bought and a licence key — never card or bank details. See mollie.com/privacy.
Friends
If you use the Friends feature, a short random friend code is stored on our server and linked to your licence. Friends only exchange the pet information shown in the app; nothing else about you is shared.
Community creations
If you upload a pet or background to the community gallery, the SVG, its title and the author name you enter are stored on our server and shown publicly after review. If you enable a public profile, your username, bio, pet name, species and bond level are shown on the website.
Fonts, scripts & hosting
All fonts, images and scripts are served from our own server — no third-party CDN, font service or tracker is loaded by the extension or this website. As with any web server, technical request data (IP address, time, requested URL) may be processed for security and operation.
Cookies & settings
This website sets no cookies. Your language choice lives in the page address (?lang=…) and your light/dark choice in your browser's local storage.
Your rights
You can access, correct and delete your data. In the extension open Menu → Privacy to delete your account and all synced data, or e-mail us. Purchase records (licence keys) may be kept for as long as accounting law requires.
